Holy chocolate and jelly bean saints -- Easter collages

Easter collage mashupWhen I was a kid, Easter meant jelly beans and chocolate bunnies, my mom's Easter bread and ham for lunch. As an adult, I'm conflicted about the meaning of the holiday. It's the holiest day on the Christian calendar. But to me, it's all about the food.

So it's not surprising that when an Easter candy catalog arrived in my mailbox, I was compelled to make collage mashups of the images that came to mind. I don't mean to offend anyone's beliefs. Perhaps you'll recognize the strange conflict between commerce and spirituality that Easter means to me.

  1. This is great! I get the See's catalog too, and always want to do something with it, (besides order custom boxes of dark chocolate nuts and chews...). I totally know what you mean about the "spiritual consumerism" thing: The buying of the chocolate as sacrament. Hope you have a Happy Easter!

  2. Obviously we're part of the same family because all holidays were/are all about food. Interesting collages but you know in the end I'm just seeing chocolate and wondering if I should go to town and buy some - one of my weaknesses.

I'm hoping Jim made some Easter bread as I totally spaced out about it........

  3. Love See's candies; love what you did with their Easter candy catalog! The collages are hilarious! Was raised Catholic, but not offended - what with the way things are nowadays, a sense of humor concerning religion is very much needed!
