One of the many things I've learned from my mixed-media mentor John is that you should save almost everything you create -- even the sad leftovers. Someday, they could find a home in a collage or art journal.
That's what happened when I sat down to make thank-you cards after Christmas. Looking for inspiration, I pulled out some old deli papers from a stack on my desk. Originally, I used these to try out stencils and stamps and soak up extra paint. The colors were vaguely Christmasy, so I thought they could work for cards.
I adhered the paper to yellow-green card stock, and after they were dry, I added a single "thank you" stamp. I'm happy with the result.

So thank YOU for following my blog.
You just never know when those pieces of paper are going to come in handy. Glad you save and love the results.
ReplyDeleteNow I just figure out where to put all my valuable leftovers!
Deletevery nice! keeping track of all those valuable left overs is a big challenge for me-and remembering to use them ;) what did you use to adhere them with? gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenny. I used PVA glue. I think matte medium would work too.
DeleteThese cards turned out great - I think the recipients will be very happy to get them! Great work!
ReplyDeleteI always try to save scraps from other projects (even the failed ones, as you mentioned) - it can save a lot of time when setting up another project, and it's fun and satisfying as well.
Yes, it's very satisfying to use something you thought didn't work out and it turns into a success.
DeleteYour cards turned out lovely. I would never have thought they came from scraps of paper previously used. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteThanks! And I love your "handle," EcoGrandma!!
