Do you suffer from post-project desk chaos? I do. After I finish a collage, my workspace looks like a battlefield. Covering every surface within an arm's-length radius are bits of paper, pools and smudges of matte medium, sharp objects of all kinds, ink pads and stamps, stencils, goopy paint bottles, a cup of cold coffee and, sometimes, a bored cat.
Last week, I decided to make clean up more fun by challenging myself to make a collage using only the stuff I found on the battlefield -- er, I mean my desk. Here's the result.
To stave off perfectionism, I repeated the mantra "it's just leftovers." My favorite part is the green grid covering the 2 faces. I'll do more of that in the future.
brilliant!!! i started doing something similar awhile back. i stash the leftover bits & pieces to use in a collage journal. when i flip back thru it, i can usually recall what project the pieces came from, etc. like an archive of everything i do :) tfs

DeleteHow fun! My cat never ends up in my studio, but that's only because she's afraid to go down in the basement, which is where it's located. Like Jenny, the previous commenter, I'm using leftover bits and pieces in a collage journal. But that pile is starting to add up, so I'd better make more collages in it! I'll have to try making a collage with your method sometime.
ReplyDeleteMy cat (her name is Miso) got matte medium on her back paw, where it dried. She spent the next 2 weeks trying to get it off. Argh.
