At this week's collage workshop, our fearless leader showed us how to make a special envelope book. Here's what mine looks like from the outside. Nothing special, right?
Wrong! This small (4 x 4 in.) envelope includes 3 secret compartments.
Each compartment contains a card with a collage on both front and back. Like this one.
All the bits and pieces come from John's huge stash of ephemera. For backgrounds, I used old dictionary pages (in several languages), wallpaper samples, old bills, Japanese ledger paper and cocktail napkins.
The focal images come from an old school reader.
It's hard to believe that the book and cards all came from a single piece of watercolor paper, precisely scored, cut, folded and pasted.

This next one below is my favorite.
Yes, it certainly is. Thanks for teaching us how to make this inventive book, John!
Looks like such a fun project - thanks for showing it off!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Aimee! It was super fun.
