Collaged fabric pouch and handmade books with pretty spines

Can you make a collage on fabric? Of course you can! In our collage workshop, fearless leader John showed us how. Here's the result.

This small pouch started as a long strip of white muslin. Paint came first, then layers of painted deli paper, attached using matte medium. After waiting a few days (!) for the fabric to dry, I folded it, punched holes along the edge and then sewed it using sari ribbon.

What goes in the pouch? A small handmade book, covered with more painted deli paper. I learned a new stitch for the outside spine -- the "tacket" stitch.

The book was so fun to make that I had to make a second one.

  1. Very fun. I've never thought about deli paper for painting. I did use it in the past to add to other 'stuff' for handmade paper.

    1. We actually used Gelli plates to paint the paper. Do you have one of these? You might like playing with one.

  2. Maybe you will even make a third one and fourth! I love how it turned out. Even with the same directions to everyone each was so personal and totally different. Awesome! :-)
