I joined Instagram recently (@wasnowart) and found "my" people -- groups of collage artists from around the world. One, Edinburgh Collage Collective, asked artists to create collages about climate change. I jumped in and made a few pieces (see below).
I also made a startlingly discovery....as I paged through old issues of National Geographic, I realized that almost every issue since the 1960s is packed with ads for cars. Big gas guzzlers in the 1960s, small econo cars in the 1970s, boxy American cars in the 1980s and 90s, and SUVs since then. Which seems to conflict with the magazine's focus on climate change, deforestation, environmental destruction and pollution. What gives, NatGeo?
