Sewing guide from 1937

Do you know how to sew? My mom, an expert seamstress, taught me when I was only 9. The first lessons in ripping out mis-stitched seams were painful (for both of us), and I'm grateful that my mom didn't give up on her impatient daughter  My first big "grown up" purchase was a sewing machine from J.C. Penneys when I was 14.

It turns out that many people today don't know how to sew -- even to reattach a button or hem a pair of pants. (See recent stats on sewing skills here.)

Below are images from a sewing guide from 1937. I bought it to use in my collages, but after studying it, I'm reluctant to cut it up. The book is filled with very helpful illustrations and all kinds of details that usually aren't explained so well.

After I scan the entire book, I'll post all the pages. For those new sewers out there....
